Justin chats with Mark Chadbourn

Joining us today is UK author Mark Chadbourn. Mark has a distinguished career as a journalist for The Times,  a screen writer for the BBC, and a writer of award-winning fantasy. I came to know his work last year when Pyr sent me a copy of The Silver Skull. Pyr has a knack for publishing good-looking books, and this one in particular looked sharp with its snazzy Chris McGrath cover. The Silver Skull ended up being one of my picks for FanLit’s Favorites 2009.

Veteran readers will be happy to be reacquainted with several characters from earlier books: the wizard Bayaz; the dishonored warrior Bremer dan Gorst; Finree dan Brock, Union Commander Marshal Kroy’s ambitious daughter; Black Dow, the ruthless leader of the Northmen. But if you haven’t read any of Abercrombie’s books yet, don’t worry — you don’t need to have read them in order to fully enjoy The Heroes.

Welcome dear readers to the first World Wide Wednesday of 2011. 2011? That sounds so..futuristic. In 2011 we should have cars that fly, and robot dogs that do our laundry. My car only flies briefly when driven off a cliff, and my dog is still very much biological. I wish to apologize for the lack of WWW last week. I was overcome with the Holiday Spirit *blackberry wine if you wish know the precise spirit* and I missed Wednesday completely. Not to worry though, I stowed away the Santa hat and got back to work searching for items of interest.

Welcome dear readers to this week’s World Wide Wednesday. I will be your chaperone through various wanderings across the intertubes. Amanda always did such a great job with these segments, and it will be difficult to fill her shoes. Seriously, I wear size 14 so these things are killing me. Read the article with an English accent and it will help you in your transition from Amanda to myself. I shall do my best to be your new guide.  In the coming weeks if you find something interesting you think everyone should read, drop me line via the contact form and let me know,
