A wonderful list of the things that Kvothe has to do on the third day of The Kingkiller Chronicles. That book is going to be giiiiiiiinormous. And he’s going to have to talk like an auctioneer for 24 hours to get through all of that. Or maybe King is just a dog he runs over in a carriage.

According to Lois Lowry, The Giver is going to be made into a movie, with Jeff Bridges in the titular role. I have serious questions about how they are going to end a movie version of this.

The Player of Games: A space opera about board games

The Player of Games by Iain M. Banks

The Player of Games (1988) is the second of Iain M. Banks’s Culture novels. Jernau Morat Gurgeh is a famous game player from the protective, machine-run Culture. Like everyone else that lives in the Culture, Gurgeh has never known fear, pain, or greed. He wants little beyond the thrill offered by the games and the respect he earns from winning them until he meets Mawhrin-Skel, a drone that blackmails Gurgeh into traveling to the distant Empire of Azad and representing the Culture in a tournament.

Untimed: Like science class in Las Vegas

Untimed by Andy Gavin

Charlie Horologe’s mother can’t remember his name. People often forget him seconds after they’ve seen him. When he scores the highest in the high jump on the track and field team, they give the medal to the kid who came in second. The only people who seem to remember him consistently are his dad and his aunt Sophie, who travel together for their work and only show up about twice a year, usually with an armload of history books for Charlie and a quiz on the contents.

This is the opening of Andy Gavin’s YA time-travel fantasy Untimed.
