It’s going to be a short column this week.

Books and Writing:

Electric Lit posts an interview by Jeff VanderMeer of Nick Mamatas, about the life and health of the short story.

I just got back from a trip to Seattle, which included a morning spent doing some research at the Seattle Central Library. This building is amazing. When I got home I looked up some articles on it. Architects in the audience will enjoy this one, although I found it a bit dense. Oh, wait. Maybe that was me. And here’s an interview with Rem Koolhaas, one of the two architects, who seems to have a lively, dry sense of humor.

Locus provides a list of best-sellers in August.

Self-promotion: I have a story in an upcoming anthology called Beyond the Stars; Unimagined Realms. The subgenre is space opera, with some military SF, and my story (which isn’t). It will be available on Kindle for 99 cents from the release date, August  24, 2018, through the end of the month (then it goes to $2.99). Paper books will be available in September probably.  I will update the Amazon link here when it’s available.

Movies and TV:

HBO has just ordered an entire season of Watchmen, produced by Damon Lindof.

“Your pizza place is a gateway to hell!” Here, courtesy of AV Club, is the trailer for a horror movie created by Chance the Rapper. (Not Safe for Work.)

Internet:

Summer’s nearly over, but in case you still have some vacation time to use, Silver Fern Holidays sent us a link to their fun infographic on “Where to Hunt Monsters.”

Thanks to Terry for this link to “clear candies,” a Victorian Christmas treat that has returned to life. We thought these candies had a clear steampunk vibe to them!
