fantasy and science fiction book reviewsIt’s getting to the end of the year, and assuming that the world does not end on Friday, fans of speculative fiction have a lot to be looking forward to next year. One of the great things about the internet is it has the ability to build a buzz around projects long before they actually hit the bookshelves or movie theaters. Today, I want to highlight trailers for some of the movies you might want to keep an eye out on next year.

Superheroes:

Man of Steel. Yummy

Thor – The Dark World. Yummier. Can’t find an official trailer for this.

Iron Man 3. RDJ does nothing for me, but I’ll watch it just to keep up with the Avengers

The Wolverine. Eh. I like it better when Hugh Jackman sings. – Also, no official trailer yet.

Fantasy:

Hansel and Gretel. This looks bloody, but might be worth it just for Jeremy Renner.

Hobbit Part Two

Oz The Great and Powerful  – I bounced up and down a little bit in my seat when I saw this.

Jack the Giant Slayer – I haven’t heard much about this one, but it’s got Ewan Macgregor in it.

fantasy and science fiction book reviewsScience Fiction:

Ender’s Game – as far as I can tell, there isn’t an official trailer out for this one yet.

Star TrekInto Darkness – Serious yummers in this one. I linked to both trailers out for this one.

Oblivion. Earth has been decimated by aliens, but we shall overcome. Has potential. Tom Cruise kind of irks me.

World War Z. I need to read this book before the movie comes out.

Pacific Rim. Alien  monsters invade from a tear in space buried deep in the Pacific Ocean. Ummm, yeah.

Animated:

Despicable Me 2. I’ll be taking my son to see this in the theaters. He’s been a minion for Halloween for the last two years.

Epic. I’m not sure how original it’s going to be, but it sure looks beautiful

Monsters University. Prequel to Monsters, Inc. I’m kind of scared.

Did I miss anything? And which movies are you most looking forward to next year?

Edited to fix a grievous oversight. Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments will hit theaters in August.
