First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost
In First Drop of Crimson, Jeaniene Frost returns us to the world of her popular NIGHT HUNTRESS series, which starts with Halfway to the Grave. In fact, the novel’s protagonists, Denise and Spade, are the best friends of Kat and Bones from the earlier series.
Denise is still recovering from the brutal death of her husband and wants nothing to do with the world of vampires. But then a demon with a grudge against her family shows up and threatens to kill her family members and turn her into a shapeshifting monster unless she helps him track down a rogue member of her family tree who is being sheltered by vampires. Denise is forced to reach out to Spade and the two soon find themselves on a perilous journey through the vampire underworld.
As always, Frost grabs you fast and never lets up. First Drop of Crimson has excellent pacing, romantic tension, and a plot that drives you toward an action-packed climax.
What’s not to like? Well, it wasn’t a big issue for me, but I did find one key element of the resolution (which I won’t spoil by revealing here) to be overly predictable and not very compelling. Despite that, I enjoyed this novel as much as the Night Huntress novels and plan to read the sequel.
Night Huntress (Cat and Bones) — (began in 2007) Publisher: Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father — the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life. Then she’s captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership. In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She’s amazed she doesn’t end up as his dinner — are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn’t have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side… and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

I hate the cover.
The cover looks much worse in print than it does on the screen. The man is totally hideous and plus it makes this seem like a romance first type novel and honestly I think it’s an action oriented fantasy with romance. What ever happened to the good old-fashioned fantasy value of just having a female dressed in snakes on the cover? :teeth:

Vampires and damsels in distress have been portrayed better on covers, that not withstanding I am eager for the book to release because love the previous series and am looking forward to this spin-off from Jeaniene Frost very much!

I’ll bet they picked him because he bears a little resemblance to the guy from True Blood.
Frost gets much better covers for the Grave books.
