Sunday Status Update: March 21, 2021

Marion: Very little reading this week because it’s another week of revisions, but I hope to send one manuscript back to my editor in a day or two. I am reading Nick Martell’s The Kingdom of Liars, which Bill reviewed. I agree with Bill’s review. I am going to finish it though.

Bill: This week I read the quite fun Fiends of Nightmaria, the newest Malazan novella by Steven Erikson; the excellent and utterly fascinating The Zoologist’s Guide to the Galaxy: What Animals on Earth Reveal About Aliens — and Ourselves by Arik Kershenbaum; and Obit, the often moving collection of poetry by Victoria Chang. Video-wise I checked out the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which was mostly set-up for what’s to come, but enjoyable set-up.

Sandy: Moi? Having recently finished one John Taine novel, 1934’s Before the Dawn, I have now eagerly dived into another. The title of this current book is The Forbidden Garden, which I was fortunate enough to lay my hands on in its 1947 first-edition hardcover. The book has really sucked me right in and I look forward to reporting back to you on it very shortly….

Terry: I read and enjoyed Alix Harrow’s A Spindle Splintered, a feminist take on Sleeping Beauty, and finally finished Walk the Wire by David Baldacci, the sixth (and last so far) of his MEMORY MAN series. Now I’m all wrapped up in T.J. Klune’s Under the Whispering Door — as fine a book as The House in the Cerulean Sea, which I really need to review.
