Marion: Last week, most of my “reading” involved recipes and grocery shopping lists. I did, however, finish a romance novel (a genre I almost NEVER read). I finished up Deception by Selena Montgomery, better-known to politics-watchers as Stacey Abrams. It’s not my go-to genre, but I did enjoy it. And I managed to browse the most recent issue of Clarkesworld, which had a couple of interesting stories. A.C. Wise’s “To Sail the Black” was like Giedeon the Ninth light, and I loved the fractured first generation-North-American family in Brazilian writer Clara Madrigano’s “Lost in Darkness and Distance.”
Sandy: Moi? I am currently reading what is perhaps my 10th collection of stories culled from the pages of the classic Weird Tales magazine. It is a beautiful new anthology from Valancourt Books entitled The Women of Weird Tales, and as its title suggests, is comprised of stories from women writers only, the four women here being Mary Elizabeth Counselman, Greye La Spina, Eli Colter and Everil Worrell. The stories originally appeared in “The Unique Magazine” during its heyday of 1925 – 1949 and I have been hugely enjoying them this holiday season. Speaking of which, allow me to wish our FanLit readers all good things in the New Year approaching….
Tim: This week, I read Mary Stewart‘s The Last Enchantment, finally concluding her MERLIN TRILOGY. It was a great book, part of a great trilogy overall, and I’ll have to think of picking up The Wicked Day at some point ot complete Stewart’s Arthur material.
Thanks, Sandy! I hope your New Year is safe, healthy and happy too. The Women of Weird Tales looks cool!
Thanks, Marion! Same to you and yours!
