Tachyon Publications celebrates the 30-year anniversary of Patricia McKillip’s The Book of Atrix Wolfe with a beautiful new edition. McKillip, who passed away in May, 2022, wrote seductive fantasies, filled with engaging characters and prose that sang. Beginning in the 1970s, McKillip filled our lives with magic, mystery and beauty.
We’re happy to reveal the beautiful cover of the new book, and host a giveaway. One commenter will have a choice of a hardcopy ARC or an eARC of The Book of Atrix Wolfe.
“When the White Wolf descends upon the battlefield, the results are disastrous. His fateful decision to end a war with a powerful magic changes the destiny of four kingdoms; warlike Kardeth, resilient Pelucir; idyllic Chaumenard, and the mysterious Elven realm.
Twenty years later, Prince Talis, orphaned heir to Pelucir, is meant to be the savior of the realm. However, the prince is neither interested in ruling nor a particularly skilled mage. Further, he is obsessed with a corrupted spellbook, and he is haunted by visions from the woods. The legendary mage Atrix Wolfe has forsaken magic and the world of men. But the Queen of the Wood, whose fae lands ovrlap Pelucir’s bloody battlefield, is calling Wolfe back. Her consort and daughter have been missing since the siege, and if Wolfe cannot intervene, the Queen will keep a sacrifice for her own.”

Patricia McKillip is one of the old classical mature-but-not-dark fantasy authors, like Charles de Lint. We saw her at World Fantasy Convention and she signed several of my books.
I met her once in the 1970s, very early in her career. She was shy and I was shy, but we managed to exchange coherent sentences. She was quietly encouraging of my writing dreams.
That’s sweet! (I don’t know how this turned up as a reply to Lady Morar’s comment at first when I was replying to yours from my new comment notification)
Thank you for the giveaway opportunity. I was sorry to hear of Ms McKillip’s passing.
That’s sweet!
This sounds like an engrossing story!
B, if you live in the USA, you win a copy of THE BOOK OF ATRIX WOLFE.
Please contact me (Marion) with your US address and I’ll have the book sent right away. Let me know if you want an electronic ARC or hard copy.
Happy reading!
Aargh, somehow the first letter of my email address appeared instead of my usual Noneofyourbusiness handle here in that followup comment.
Yep, that’s you all right. Please send me the usual info and you choice of hardcopy or eARC, and I’ll forward to to Tachyon!
Yes, that’s why the comment from “b” is a repeat of the comment from my usual handle “Noneofyourbusiness” and talks about how it somehow showed up as a reply to Lady Morar instead of as a reply to you the first time. I presume that’s also why it has the same icon. I didn’t even know the handle was borked until I got the email notification about your winner announcement comment. There’s also some weird thing where I get email notifications about new comments right away but can’t see those comments on this page until it updates a few hours later even if I refresh.
I have! And I got your response!
