Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. The advertisements and end caps of stores are pushing the usual gifts: chocolates, flowers, and the like.
But let’s think out of the box a bit here.
If you could pop over for a few hours to any of the fantasy/sci-fi worlds out there, what would you pick up for your significant other to express your love? We’re talking an expression of romance here, not something they can sell off so as to live in comfort their whole life.
Would you give them a bouquet of elanor or niphredil? Go a little bigger with a mithril bracelet? Or go all the way in with a Silmaril? What would be the gift that shows the true extent of your love?

Well, the living blanket from Bujold’s Brothers in Arms comes to mind.
I love this idea! I would love to get a heart stone (from The Bone Witch series) for my love <3
I’d give them a mountain range of multicolored crystals (but not the dangerous kind from Anne McAffrey’s Crystal Singer series).
I’d get a fire lizard from Pern
World peace.
I think if you wanted to give a romantic gift to a lady (I assume you’re both earthlings, but maybe she’s a green alien, who knows) a luxurious tribble coat lined with silk would be appropriate. As a follow-up, it is essential to have a crate of multi-flavored macarons overnighted from earth. Obviously, macarons are equally loved by everyone–men, women, space aliens, etc. Unless of course you have a nut allergy.
The most thoughtful gift would be to have a restaurant renamed after them.
My significant other has had eye problems since childhood, so I would bring him back the Golden Apple from the Magician’s Nephew.
