To all our American readers: Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it invites us to take stock, to reflect, and to be grateful. As a big fan of SFF, I’ve had a great deal to be thankful this year, including new novels by Robert Charles Wilson, China Miéville, and Neal Stephenson. However, perhaps this year will be remembered as a great year for SFF films, including Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, and soon — though not soon enough as far as I’m concerned — another Star Wars film.
What are you grateful for?
One random commenter will choose a book from our stacks.
I’m grateful that even as an almost 50 year old Naval Officer I’m able to still embrace my inner geek and that my daughters, probably, respect that more than my service. Makes me happy and proud to have raised good and thoughtful human beings!
This is a wonderful comment, Richard.
I’m grateful for THE LIBRARY AT MOUNT CHAR, UPROOTED and several other great books that came out this year. And I’m grateful for chocolate. I’m always grateful for chocolate.
I’m grateful for too many books to list, wonderful authors who are kind to their fans on social media, and Fantasy Literature for their fantastic giveaways! I love my birthday party t-shirt!
This is my first year as a blogger. I am very thankful to all the publishers, authors, and of course my fellow bloggers for helping make this first year so great! There are so many great books to be thankful for as well! Thanks everyone!
Books. Always thankful for the books.
Luna: New Moon in particular, though uprooted was also worthwhile.
An active Internet fan community, particularly file770.
I love File 770!
I’m grateful for all the awesome genre show adaptations coming to tv like Jessica Jones and The Expanse and The Magicians etc that all look awesome as hell.
A life that’s going well (excellent job, reasonable financial security) and my two bright 3.5 year olds. My mother and other family and friends. I’m also recalling great memories of my father who died on Thanksgiving night a few years ago (not unexpectedly).
On the reading side–books by Bujold, Duane, Shinn, Leckie, McShane, Addison, Martha Wells, Cherryh, Walton, Lee and Miller, Scott and Graham. Current: the new Tremontaine serial by Kushner and a lot of other authors.
Melita, twins?!
I think this holiday always brings memories of loved ones who have passed. I know it does for me.
Yep! So I’m sure you can understand why I’m happy to have read as many books in the last few years that I have! Started late too, 46, although I hope it has made me a little more easy-going in the child rearing department.
They’ve been to a worldcon already too.
Worldcon? Wow!
I’m thankful for books. And chocolate. And family. And libraries, and the internet, and cats, and warm bedding in winter, and air conditioning in summer.
Melanie, you stole all of mine! Ok, I’ll add to her list with: good friends, good food and animals.
Ryan, in the Film Department, let’s not forget the new Terminator and Jurassic Park films, both of which were better than I would have anticipated….
I am thankful for books, especially the availability of the SciFi/Fantasy books that are now mainstream since I was a youngster & first started reading. I am thankful for blogs such as yours that introduce me to new authors. Of course I am thankful for chocolate, and family and friends, and cats & dogs, not necessarily in that order. Thankful that I live here in Florida, in the USA.
I’m thankful for meeting some of my favorite authors this year. Myke Cole, Bradley Beaulieu, and Naomi Novik.
