1) 2010 Nebula Awards Winners: Congratulations to all the nominees and especially to the winners. I’m not so sure awards are always accurate predictors of the best, but 2010’s crop looked rather exceptional. You might want to read Bill’s review of Connie Willis’s winning novel Blackout/All Clear and Terry’s reviews of the nominated novellas, novelettes, and short stories.
2) GRRM blows the lid on A DANCE WITH DRAGONS: A Dribble of Ink has a nice little article about a recent A Dance with Dragons update from George R.R. Martin. 
3) Free ebook: Pick 1 of 3 collections from Jeff Carlson: John Ottinger lets us know about a very cool promotion from Jeff Carlson.
4) R.I.P. Jeffrey Catherine Jones, One of Fantasy’s Greatest Artists: Anyone who has read Heavy Metal magazine is familiar with Jones’ work. A pioneer of fantasy art, she will be missed.
5) Pyr to Enter Young Adult Market: One of our most beloved publishers is expanding into the YA market. Congratulations to Pyr and I most certainly look forward to new YA you’ll be bringing our way.
6) Bookselling Mapped: While reading the article about Pyr, I stumbled across this gem.
I didn’t know Jeffrey Caherine Jones by name but I’m familiar her illustrations. They are very much like Frazetta’s. It sad because it seems like that kind of illustration is a thing of the past now.

@Sarah: I was just saying the other day that if vampires and werewolves existed, I’d rather date a werewolf. Sure, he might eat my shoes, but he’d be warm and fuzzy instead of cold and, well, dead.
I totally agree, which is a big part of why I just don’t enjoy vampire romances.
I was in the same boat with you Greg. I didn’t know who she was but I had definitely seen her work many times. After reading the article I dug up some more about her. What a tragic, yet fascinating life. It seems like people with this level of talent often have severe internal battles going on inside, Jones was no exception.
I did the same thing, Justin. Did you read the interview where she answers the question if men are better artists than women? Usually -being me-, I roll my eyes at that kind of question, but her answer http://www.sequentialtart.com/archive/july04/jcjones.shtml, while its way out there, really had some amazingly good points. I think she was onto something there.
I just love that style of fantasy art that she did. It’s so much like Frazetta that at first glance, I would think it is his but she does have her own unique style. I really hate that, that way of doing fantasy illustration seems to have passed-on.
Werewolves, definitely.
Like several others, I didn’t know her by name by Jones’s artwork has certainly made an impression on me over the years. She sounds like a fascinating person as well as an artist.
