Obituary:

Katherine Johnson, African American mathematician who worked for NASA and helped put people on the moon, died this week. She lived to be 101 years old, and an inspiration to many people. 

Books and Writing:

This contest is open to a small pool of people but I’m pleased to see SFF encouraged among young people.

Last week Amazon Prime premiered Hunters, about Nazi Hunters in the USA, starring Al Pacino.

Netflix is preparing an anime of Transformers, which I think brings this franchise full circle from its inception as a “cartoon,” which is what we called them when I was a kid, riding our dinosaurs to school.

Science:

Scientists have discovered two antibodies that bind the novel coronavirus. The lab is working with many other entities to see if a vaccine can be developed.

Without Editorial Comment:

Mike Hughes, who once said he planned to fly a rocket up to the 62-mile-high barrier of the atmosphere and take photos to show the earth is really flat, was killed over the weekend in a rocket accident. Space.com notes that this rocket accident was probably not connected with Hughes’s beliefs about the earth.

Internet:

FanExpo Dallas, 2020, has a reunion of the actors who played four of the Weasleys in the Harry Potter films.

Earth:

Cabbage palms are fighting cougars in Florida – and winning. Humans, though, have come in on the side of the cougars… and tasty hearts of palm salad.
